 Rough diamond buying advices |

 It is very important
to buy a precious stone by daylight, on a fine weather day and with a
northern exposure. It is under these conditions that the true color of the stone
will appear. |
Put rough diamond inside
a diamond colortest grader, press
slightly on the paperboard and examine the color of diamond under a daylight lamp. |

| If you wish to buy rough diamonds in
order to cut them and resell them cut, there is a risk during the cutting: diamond can
break because of a bad handling or an internal stress which would not have been detected. Your investment
would then be lost entirely. |
If you buy for the first time, it is
preferable to test diamond with a diamond tester to make sure that
you are really in the presence of a diamond and not a simulant. |

| Beware of salesperson who
will say that the color of a rough diamond that they are try to sell will clear
up during cutting, it is not an absolute rule. |
If you wish to buy rough diamonds for cutting and reselling
them cut, choose the cutter with caution. Indeed a diamond
can be easily exchanged with another of lower quality. |

Analyze the rough diamond in order to determine precisely it's weight after polishing. Rough
shape, inclusions, crystallizations deformations, internal stress must be observed
attentively before any purchase:
 1 carat rough diamond, sawn, very good shape,
will lose 48 % of its weight, meaning that after cutting it will be only
0.52 carat polished diamond.
1 carat rough
diamond, sawn, good shape, will lose 57 % of its weight, meaning that after cutting it will be only
0.43 carat polished diamond.
1 carat rough
diamond, sawn, bad shape, will lose 65 % of its weight, meaning that after cutting it will be only
0.35 carat polished diamond.
1 carat
rough diamond, no sawn, very good shape, will lose 53 % of its weight, meaning that after cutting it will be only
0.47 carat polished diamond.
1 carat rough diamond, no sawn, good shape, will lose 58 % of its weight, meaning that after cutting
it will be only 0.42 carat polished diamond.
1 carat rough diamond, no sawn, bad shape, will lose 67 % of its weight,
meaning that after cutting it will be only 0.33 carat polished diamond. |
